Lucy Banks and how OnlyFans changed her life
Australian internet influencer Lucy Banks, quit her corporate job three years ago to create content online full-time. The mum-of-two kindly revealed the pros and cons of being an OnlyFans creator. Keep reading to learn more about the industry and about Lucy Banks herself!
Q. Your life has clearly changed a lot in the past couple of years. You bought your own property, paid off your debts, and you single-handedly take care of your children. These are incredible achievements! What do you think are the non-financial benefits of being a 🌶️content creator?
A. Thank you! There are just as many non-financial benefits. One of my main concerns about starting a 'spicy' account is that it would affect my self-esteem negatively. My confidence has actually sky-rocketed since I started almost 4 years ago. There were parts of my body that I was uncomfortable with, that I have completely fallen in love with and now I embrace completely. It's made such a difference to the way I love myself and I think that is a very positive thing about the industry.
Q. What are the pros and cons of working as a 🌶️ content creator?
A. Pros: freedom to work from anywhere, financial benefits, confidence boost, being a part of a beautiful community.
Cons: judgement from the rest of society, being outcast and judged, potential trouble obtaining finance and housing, having to hustle 24/7, constantly being attached to your phone.
Q. What is your best on-the-job memory?
A. This is such a hard question! So many amazing memories. Sexpo was great, it was really wholesome being able to meet fans in person who I have grown close to over the last few years. Content days are always the BEST fun. I've flown interstate a few times to collaborate with other creators and everyone is so lovely and so welcoming.
Here in Perth, we've created a beautiful little community of creators too. I think my favourite day was a collaboration day at Crown Towers with Sekushi Studios. There were a bunch of us girls who had champagne and took photos and filmed TikTok's in the pool all day. I couldn't have asked for better company. We all laughed so much all day.
Q. What is your worst on-the-job memory?
A. Being locked out of my AirBnB at 3am in Melbourne, needing to catch a 5am flight to Sydney! I had been out to the clubs with another creator. I had to catch the plane with NO bags and in my clubbing clothes. So embarrassing haha.
Q. Any tips/suggestions to creators🌶️✨ who are new to the industry?
A. Stay consistent, stay persistent. The only difference between those who are successful and those who aren't is that they didn't give up. It's hard and some days you'll want to throw in the towel. But keep going and keep hustling.
Q. You're a huge activist when it comes to fighting the stigma around sex work. At Rulta, one of our core values is reducing the societal marginalization of sex workers. Do you think it's possible to all work together to shift these negative attitudes?
A. Absolutely. I'm a big believer in talking about sex work and normalising it. Because it is normal! The more we all talk about it, the more that stigma starts to erode. OnlyFans has played a HUGE role in societal judgement starting to change. Everyone knows an OnlyFans creator and it's shown the world that sex workers are literally just everyday people. We have a long way to go, but it's happening and I am confident that we are moving towards a society that is more accepting.
Q. You previously told the Daily Star: "For those who are seriously considering a career change like this, my advice would be to consider your emotional and mental health, if you have it in you to hustle and work hard to establish and build a fan base, shoot content and promote yourself and the possibility that people may not agree with your choice of profession.”
How do you maintain your emotional and mental health? Do you have advice for others in the industry?
A. I am VERY lucky to have a great support network. It wasn't always that way; I had family members who didn't talk to me for 18 months. I have old friends who still talk about me online and dox my identity. The judgement can be debilitating and it's really sad to see.
I am extremely driven by providing a better life for my children. There's been times where I've thought 'What am I doing? Is this worth it?' and then I look at my boys and I KNOW that everything is worth it. Hands down.
Keep your eye on the prize and remind yourself of why you started this role, and where it's going to take you. I am so grateful for my life. If I can have everything I've ever wanted, and all it costs me is the opinion of people I don't really like anyway, then that is a pretty sweet deal.
Q. Many people quit their corporate jobs to become online content creators. Do you have any suggestions to those who were in the same place you were, a few years ago?
A. This might be controversial, but I always tell people to DO IT! Quit your job. You'll soon figure out how to hustle and how to make sure your page is bringing in enough cash to pay your bills. Sink or swim.
Q. We love the rebellious nature of your merchandise. How do you deal with judgemental people?
A. Thank you! Judgemental people are always casting opinions based on their own insecurities. It's really interesting researching the psyche behind bullies and how their attitude comes from a place of fear. You will be able to find 1,000 people that say they hate me. But you won't be able to find someone who says I ever did anything mean to them. As long as I can go to sleep at night knowing I'm a good person, it's all water off a duck’s back.

Q. When did you sign up to Rulta? How has your experience been with us so far?
A. I think it's been about six months now! It blows my mind seeing the hundreds of leaks & infringements that pop up daily, and then Rulta is there already taking them down. Rulta is like my safety net, and it's great knowing you're taking care of it all in the background while I keep doing my job. I recommend Rulta to everyone, it's the best of the best.
Leaks are inevitable and it's crazy how fast they pop up. As soon as they get removed, more pop up. No one can stop them, but having Rulta is the next best thing.
